Jojoba Oil - The Superfood Your Skin Craves

JOJOBA OIL, THE SUPERFOOD YOUR SKIN CRAVES

Why is jojoba oil so popular? Unlike other skincare oils, the structure of jojoba oil is unique as it closely resembles sebum, the waxy substance produced by sebaceous glands in our skin.  This similarity makes jojoba oil a perfect natural moisturizer for all skin types, even oily skin.

Where is it grown?

Jojoba oil is a golden-colored liquid wax derived from and produced by the seed of the jojoba plant (simmondsia chinensis). Native to arid regions like southern Arizona, California and northwestern Mexico, the shrub grows up to 15 feet tall.

Historically, Native Americans would extract the oil from jojoba seeds and use it to treat sores and wounds.

If you have to choose only one natural ingredient in your skin care products, choose jojoba. The differentiating advantages of jojoba oil are:

1. Moisturizes Skin

Jojoba oil promotes soft, supple and healthy skin. Being similar to sebum, jojoba oil is effectively absorbed by the skin without leaving a greasy and tacky feeling. Jojoba oil moisturizes dry patches and restores skin health.

2. Softens The Appearance of Fine Lines & Wrinkles

Jojoba oil is naturally rich in vitamin E and Eicosenoic acid (omega- 9 fatty acid). When formulated into skincare moisturizers and serums, it effortlessly locks in essential moisture, thus keeping skin's protective barrier intact. Regular use of jojoba oil helps to gradually soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and results in smoother, younger looking skin.

3. Moisturizes Dry, Cracked Heels

Tired of dry, flaky and cracked heels? Jojoba oil to the rescue, again! The regular application of jojoba oil on the feet will keep them smooth and prevent cracked heels.

4. Makes Your Lips Soft

Want kissable-soft lips? Use jojoba oil instead of your petroleum-based moisturizers. Its waxy structure will help lock in and thereby replenish the lost moisture from the lips.

Here’s how you can make your own jojoba oil lip balm at home.

What You Need

  • 1 teaspoon jojoba oil
  • 2 teaspoon coconut oil
  • 1 drop of peppermint oil

Mix together and apply to lips as needed.

 5. Removes Makeup Safely

Use jojoba oil on your face for daily makeup removal, instead of using makeup removers that contain chemicals. Jojoba oil is a natural vehicle to remove dirt, and makeup from your face on a daily basis.

In addition to the skincare applications mentioned above, you can also use jojoba oil as a moisturizing body oil, a hair conditioner, or as a moisturizer to condition your cuticles. Enjoy!
